Dr. Ghasem Hajiloo is a wound management specialist and a member of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA). He is a nationally recognized educator and lecturer in wound care and ostomy management, with extensive experience in the treatment of wounds, scars, and neuropathy. Dr. Hajiloo is also the author of more than nine specialized books on wound management, contributing significantly to education and the advancement of clinical knowledge in this field.

After
BeforeTreatment of Severe Diabetic Toe Necrosis involves immediate infection control, restoring blood flow, and surgical removal of dead tissue (debridement). Advanced wound care techniques are then applied to stimulate new tissue growth and prevent amputation.
Wound care
Following an accident, surgery, and prolonged hospitalization, the patient developed a wound in the heel area accompanied by skin damage and necrosis. In order to support the wound healing process and improve the condition of the affected tissue, the patient underwent a course of treatment. A total of approximately 15 treatment sessions were completed, during which the wound healing process and the patient's clinical progress were monitored.

Many wounds can be treated on an outpatient basis at the clinic. However, for severe infections or cases requiring major surgical intervention, a short hospital stay may be recommended.
No. Amputation is the last option, not the inevitable outcome of a diabetic foot ulcer. Physicians consider it when tissue has been irreversibly lost, or when an infection threatens the patient’s life and cannot be controlled any other way. A wound treated early by a specialist team heals without amputation in most cases. What decides the outcome is not the ulcer itself, but how quickly it is treated. This answer is not a substitute for an in-person medical consultation.
If you have fever or chills, a foul smell and purulent discharge from the wound, a toe or area of skin turning black, redness and swelling that is spreading quickly, or sudden severe pain in a foot that was previously numb, do not wait for your next appointment — see a physician or go to an emergency department the same day. Unusual, uncontrollable rises in blood glucose are also a warning sign. This answer is not a substitute for an in-person medical consultation.
